ZAP 26 - SOLD

1979 Bruce King designed ultralite sailboat. Flush deck, open transom, 7/8ths rig Ballenger mast, Mariner 6hp
California built by Zap Marine, the ZAP 26' and ZAP 29' were expensive boats for their time, of very high quality construction with an external lead keel. The ZAP 26 was so successful on the racing circuit, that a rule change was introduced in 1980 to disqualify it from racing competitively. That caused the company to go out of business, but about two dozen of the 26 footers were produced and were very popular with southern California sail makers and sailing professionals, through the 1980’s. Today, it rates a very generous PHRF rating of 142, and is highly competitive for Bay, Ocean or Lake Circuit racing.
Excellent Condition, having completed an extensive restoration, which included overhauling and replacing every aspect of the boat that needed it. This has been my personal sailboat for the past eleven years. I've sailed this boat on San Francisco Bay and Delta, the Gulf of the Farallones, and from Bodega Bay to Monterey Bay and back, with complete confidence in the boat, and an eye on the weather.

Foam core, hand laminated fiberglass, eight ½” 316 stainless steel keel bolts, Marine plywood bulkheads epoxy coated and substantially bonded to the hull. Open plan below decks providing full access to all parts of the hull.

RIGGING
Vessel is completely restored including new standing and running rigging in 2008 with Navtec turnbuckles, and Dieform rigging - as good as it gets. New ¼” wire, vinyl covered lifelines and turnbuckles. Ballanger black anodized, tapered spar,
Also new T900 Technora/Dyneema main and jib halyards, and Stayset-X spinnaker halyards. New V-100 Vectran running backstays. All new oversize Harken blocks and deck organizer blocks and dual banks of Spinlock rope clutches, which permit reefing from the cockpit. There are seven Lewmar winches including four two speed winches for headsails and spinnakers.

SAILS
Sails include a new North Sails racing main with two reef points. The deep second reef allows the sail’s headboard to hoist under the running backstays, so in high winds the running backstays are permanently engaged, adding extra support to the mast and do not require handling during tacking and jibing. Other new sails include a 90% Dacron and Kevlar Jib, 130% Genoa, and .75 oz Spinnaker.

Those sails are new and cost substantially more than the asking price for this boat.

Five year old sails include a 100% mylar Jib and 1.5 oz Star Cut, heavy air nylon Spinnaker which was made to last and is in excellent condition.
With the oversize traveler and rigging blocks, the boat reefs quickly and easily from the cockpit, and is easy to jibe.
